Your body has been trying
to tell you something.
The 3am wake
You struggle to sleep, often waking several times in the night and even if you do sleep through the night, you wake up just as tired. Wired at midnight, exhausted by midday.
The personality you don’t recognise
You’re not your old self: less patient than you were, irritable and reacting to silly things, emotions all over the place, or feeling flat and disinterested, no motivation. The brain fog that has you reading the same paragraph three times and still not taking it in. The words you can’t find. Forgetting what you came into a room for.
Your body is complaining
Your gut playing up. The weight gain around your midriff that you just can’t shift. Your skin reacting. Physical signs that nobody has connected to the same cause.
Your eyes paying the price
Tension behind the forehead by mid-morning. Eyes that are dry, burning, and blurry by evening. A visual system that was not built for this level of sustained demand.
What’s actually happening
You know something’s wrong
You’ve read about it, been told about it, maybe looked it up at 3am when the sleep wouldn’t come. You have a good idea of what is going on in your body. And you feel completely powerless to change it. Because the harder you try to push through, the more your body pushes back. The sleep that won’t come however tired you are. The weight that won’t shift however carefully you eat. The concentration you can’t force back however much you need it. Your body is running a programme of its own, and the part of you that understands what needs to happen cannot reach the part that’s keeping things exactly where they are.
The frustrating part is that you’ve probably already tried the obvious answers. The holiday that didn’t fix it. The early nights that didn’t restore you. Maybe the talking therapy that brought everything up without moving anything. And you’re still here, still running on empty, still wondering why none of it is actually working.
Underneath all of it sits a quiet guilt that you’re the one who can’t seem to get on top of this, when from the outside you look like someone who has everything managed. Feeling powerless to change how you feel even though you have a good idea of what is going on in your body is so common. Helping you to switch off the cortisol pump and allowing you to reset is my job.
The reason it hasn’t moved
Why the standard approaches haven’t worked
CBT asks you to reframe what you’re thinking. Resilience training asks you to build more capacity. Self-care asks you to top up what’s been depleted. All of these work on the input or the output. None of them touch the reset.
When life demands more from you than your system can handle for too long, without enough recovery in between, the body can get stuck in stress mode. Even when the pressure eases, it does not fully switch off. Rest stops feeling restorative because the recovery system is no longer functioning properly. This is a real physiological state with a real mechanism behind it, which means it needs more than generic self-care to resolve it.

I spent years working as a trauma specialist in A&E. A senior sister and nurse practitioner. High stakes, relentless pressure, no room for error.
